Abstract

Having been such a busy route for more than a thousand years has meant that the act of taking pilgrims in and death are closely associated with the Way of St James. In addition to a great deal of documentation referring to the fact, there is also archaeological evidence in Navarra which should be taken into account, a number of burials being known to us and having been excavated over the length of the Way and in other places showing the presence of pilgrims or members of some of the St James brotherhoods in the region, something revealed by, among other things, burial along with a scallop shell, an unmistakeable sign of having made the pilgrimage to the tomb of...
