Abstract

This article deals with a series of smooth and decorated tiles found in 1997 during the first season of archaeological excavations carried out in the church of Santa Catalina de Tiebas (Navarre). After defining the historical and archaeological findings and briefly commenting on the technique of production, the exhibition continues with a description of the decorative floor tile that refer no doubt to French similar tiles of the thirteenth century. We also aim to contribute to a better understanding of the building constructed in Tiebas by the monarch of the House of Champagne Theobald ii (1253-1270), one of the most remarkable royal palaces of Navarra.
