Abstract

The discovery of an anthropomorphical stele representing an armed man in the oppidum from the Iron Age called Turbil proves the theory that this Navarrese settlement was one of the most important pre-roman cities that made up this territory. The unequivocal relation of the technique and iconography of this stele with the Iberian culture reveals that the aristocratic elite from Turbil knew the pattern of armed warrior in their sculpture and that they were able to transfer it to the stone, building a monument whose symbolism has not been fully explained.
