Intervenciones arqueológicas en el castillo de Estella (2001-2010) [Interventions in the archaeological castle of Estella]

Abstract

This paper shows the results of the archaeological work carried out in Estella-Lizarra’s main castle between 2000 and 2010. The archaeological excavation project was aimed at drafting the Master Plan of the «Castles of Estella-Lizarra Area» and has allowed the recovery of a very rich amount of information about the morphology, conservation status and chronology of this fortress since the 11^th century to the 14^th. This work is also a new insight in the story of this castle through new studies of pottery and the analysis of the constructive systems used in its buildings. This work is a starting point of future studies about the Estella-Lizarra’s castles.
