Juegos infantiles en Viana

Abstract

This article on children’s games in Viana comes in response to a survey performed in 1989 for the Ethnographic Atlas of Vasconia, a work designed by José Miguel de Barandiarán and published in 1993. The survey was carried out in 79 localities in Navarra, the Basque Country and the Atlantic Pyrenees. The present study now completes and augments the survey with the replies of respondents from Viana, most now deceased. Many of these running, jumping and throwing games, games involving string and hands, games with animals, plants and homemade toys, skipping-rope and ring songs were played in the town well past the first half of the XX century.
