Estelas funerarias del antiguo cementerio de Abaurregaina-Abaurrea Alta (Navarra) [Funerary steles in the old cemetery of Abaurregaina/Abaurrea Alta (Navarre)]

Abstract

This article presents the work done in the old cemetery of San Pedro’s church of Abaurregaina/Abaurrea Alta (Navarre). An archaeological investigation was conducted and a labyrinth was built to display the collection of stelae of the village, called «Jardín de Estelas-Hilarrien Lorategia». The historical study focuses on the disc shaped gravestones, analyzing their characteristics to place them in the context of Navarre. This has allowed to distinguish types and even build up hypothesis about the existence of workshops where funerary stelae in the valley of Aezkoa would have been produced.
