La epidemia de cólera de 1855 en Vidángoz (valle del Roncal) [1855’s cholera epidemic in Vidángoz (Valley of Roncal)]
Abstract
This article analyses the impact of 1855’s cholera outbreak in Vidángoz (Valley of Roncal), where the death rate almost reached 15% while in Navarre as a whole that rate is estimated to be around 5%. Using previous studies and documentation found in several archives, the spread sources, its development and its consequences in economical, demographical and social terms are exhaustively examined. In this last sphere, the way each home was affected and how the families rebuilt after the epidemic has been studied, showing a reflection of the social behaviours in Navarre’s villages in the middle of 19th century.
