Abstract

In this article, we aim to show some aspects of the daily life of a family in the Baztan Valley at the turn of the 18th century. Our main source is a set of letters featuring the correspondence of two brothers – a canon at the cathedral of Segovia, later abbot of Alfaro, and the owner of the family house, as well as the postscript by a child, son of the latter. This correspondence provides information about family structure, education, children, agriculture and livestock, as well as transmission, learning and use of different languages and religious life.
