Abstract

Giacomo Lauro was a young fan of street music who, in the middle of 1605, undertook a long journey from Rome to Madrid. In April 1606, while in Pamplona, Giacomo was attacked. The subsequent lawsuit, the documentary basis of this article, constitutes a magnificent source of information on the origins of a then novel musical instrument: the theorbo.
