Abstract

The intention behind the present study is to give some limelight to an as-yet little known feature of the botanist José María Lacoizqueta: the correspondence he maintained with both fellow botanists (Miguel Colmeiro and Blas Lázaro e Ibiza among them) and the Basque-language academic Arturo Campión. Here we find explained some of the events surrounding the creation and compilation of Lacoizqueta’s Dictionary of Basque Plant Names (Pamplona, 1888).

It is also thanks to this correspondence that we learn more of Lacoizqueta’s contribution to the botanical names in Basque found in Colmeiro’s work.
