El euskera en el valle de Cigoitia (Álava)

Abstract

The author has dedicated a lot of time to the search for Basque documentation in the Archivo General de Indias (Seville). This article sets out accurate information regarding the valley of Zigoitia in the Province of Alava. In the absence of more extensive material, brief expressions of greeting together with indirect references illustrating the status of the Basque language in this area are given. The author has given preference to revising the Consulate section where the correspondence studied is figured.
