Abstract

Notes about basque etzi «the day after tomorrow.

If we take into account that there is some relation between basque atza «yesterday» and basque atze «rear, behind», we can then, considering bihar «tomorrow» outside the simetric scheme because of its particular character in many languages (german morgen, spanish mañana, ... ) establish an etymological connection between basque etzi «the day after tomorrow» and basque ai(n)tzi «before, in front of». The final -n found in aintzin is not part of the root, and plays the same role as, for example, the finnish «instructive» case.
