Bakaikuko hizkera
Abstract
This article analyses the Basque spoken in the village of Bakaiku, in the Burunda valley. The variant from Burunda is regarded as a bridge between the dialects from the west and centre of the Basque Country and Navarre. Likewise, the Basque spoken in Bakaiku bridges the gap between the variants from the Burunda and the Barranca (central area of the Sakana). As demonstrated in this study, two different variants are, therefore, present. The theory of continuum geolectal is, nevertheless, confirmed by the revelation of several features common to both. There are more similarities between the Basque from the Barranca and the Bakaiku variant than between the former and the language used in other parts of the Burunda.
