La forma pasiva de *ditza + u > ditu
Abstract
The present study attempts to provide proof of the primitive present of Izan and its later conversion into participle in the formation of the present of the transitive auxiliary *Edun in passive form. It is suggested that D-I- in D-I-ra and D-I-tu is the same third person plural patient characteristic because D-I-ra (or to be more precise its anterior *D-I-tza) has lost the -A- following the personal pronoun, as in nAiz, gAra, zAra, and because D-I-tu shares the same “irregularity”. Consequently, the theoretical *Ditza from Izan plus the radical U from *Edun (i.e. *Ditza + U) have given way to DItu.
