Los numerales y algunas ideas numéricas en el vascuence (Etimología interna sistematizada)

Abstract

Principally, the author proposes the study of Basque etymology using the Basque language itself as a starting point in accordance with how the phonetic and semantic rules of the language work. This study is initiated with numerals, an area related to the most ancient and genuine substance of any language. A new interpretation of the terms bort/bost five, (h)amar ten, and (h)amaika eleven is suggested, which differs from all previous hypotheses. Without losing sight of the connection of bort/bost with the fingers, the author makes a thorough examination of the semantic value, and relates bor with the quantitive concept of abundance.
