Abstract

This article deals with the relationship which exists between toponymy and dialectology, with special attention being paid to the behaviour shown by certain names in Navarrese typonymy which end in -a when they receive the article (-a+a > -ea, -a+a > -ara). In the same way, we discuss toponyms based on relatives (western dana/ central-eastern dena/eastern bait-), and the genitive form -(a)(r)e, which is documented in Artajona, and is from all appearances an archaism. The details used to research the latter theme are taken from the unpublished piece by José María Jimeno Jurío entitled “Artajona, Toponimia Histórica” (Artajona, Historical Toponymy).
