Arga et Runa flumen
Abstract
One of the traditional ways of naming a river was by using the place through which it flowed. In the Romance and Latin sources was called Runa, Runia, Iruna to the river that flowed upon Pamplona (in Basque Irunia, Iruna; Runia, Ruina in Romance and Latin sources). In Ibero the river Arga (Arakil) joins it. "Ad Pontem Regine discurrit Arga simul et Runa", from where could come the double denomination of the town: "Pons Arga-Pons Regina".
