Izen geografikoen inguruan

Abstract

We have tried in this work, based on an article by A. Irigoien published in the magazine Euskera, to throw some new light into the value of certain geographical names. With that in mind, we have taken the toponymy of the Aibar area as a point of reference, although we occasionally make a reference to other areas in Navarra. From among the names here studied it is worth mentioning: agerria «open place» «face», which is part of the compounds eguzkiagerria - iparragerria, altxunbidea «cattle track», berokia «coat», erregua «gully » «stream», eztoma «embankment», ibina «stubble field», lakua «sodden ground», portilua «opening» «pass», potxe «ravine», ugaldea and urandia «river».
