Abstract

The loan word kokoa is present in the popular speech and in the toponymy in some Basque speaking Navarrese valleys. It can be seen used in a lineal process, in which those living in the north apply it, successively, to their southern neighbours. The author studies through the tribal behaviour the possible track of some historical event impressed upon the collective memory, and he connects it, concreteley, with the war events in the conquest of Navarre in 1530.
