Los prejuicios del hablante monolingüe de español ante el fenómeno de alternancia de código en el discurso oral de los hablantes bilingües de euskera-español [The biases of monolingual Spanish speakers towards code-switching in the oral discourse of Basque-Spanish bilinguals]
Abstract
This sociolinguistic article examines the linguistic prejudices held by monolingual Spanish speakers toward code-switching in the oral discourse of Basque-Spanish bilingual speakers. The study analyzes seven variables: origin, income level, educational background, grammatical competence, discourse formality, and the motivations behind code-switching. Based on fieldwork conducted with 21 participants, the findings confirm the persistence of negative attitudes toward certain uses of code-switching. The results highlight the need to promote a more inclusive perspective that recognizes code-switching as a legitimate and meaningful communicative practice.
