Abstract

After the conquest of the Kingdom of Navarre, and all along the sixteenth century, most villages that were under the Lords’ regimes since the late Middle Age rose against their masters. This communication intends to analyze the arguments between the Lords and the villages that were guilty for insults or disrespect to Lord’s authority. The article will study –through the lawsuits found in the section of the Royal Courts in the General Archive of Navarre– the phenomenon of insults –its typology– the situation and the circumstances that provoked them, and the behaviour of the authorities and community towards them.
