Proyecto de recuperación arqueológica del hospital de San Salvador de Ibañeta [Archaeological recovery project of the hospital of San Salvador de Ibañeta]

Abstract

The archaeological recovery project focusing on the Hospital of San Salvador on Ibañeta involves in-depth historical and archaeological investigation of the site, which condenses a great amount of history capable of explaining how a point of assistance for the different travellers crossing the Pyrenean peaks via the all-important Roncesvalles pass has been organised from Roman times to the present day. The bases of the historical- archaeological study being conducted are outlined briefly and the 2016 and 2017 campaigns, together with their results, are described.
