Abstract

Several aspects of life in Mendavia are addressed: relations with parents, uncles, aunts and other relatives; old and modern surnames; first names of men and women in 1720 and the modern day; family keepsakes; the authority of parents; relations with servants; inheritance; adoption and godparents; relationships between married couples and in society; functions of husbands and wives; and evolution over the last 50 years.

Regarding food: components of the daily diet; meals and communal stews in the country; condiments; special meals; order of the dishes; cutlery; grace, fasting and abstinence; bread; slaughtering pigs and other animals; dried fruit; mushrooms; snails; crayfish; fish from the Ebro; cheese; milk; legumes; and tobacco.
