Abstract

In 1605, Juan de Amiax, priest of Viana, wrote a detailed report of three roman steles existing in the place of Yániz, in the boundary of the town of Los Arcos. In this report, the author included a drawing of the three steles with the epigraphic content of one of them, leaving to posterity the only graphic testimony about some monuments, currently disappeared. This article tries to answer several questions of the figure of Juan de Amiax, his interest in the «archaeological report» and the incorporation of the report in one document of the noble familiy Zufía, of Viana, currently preserved in the Royal and General Archive of Navarre.
