Abstract
Julio Caro Baroja in the late 40s, when he was the Director of the Museo del Pueblo Español, applied to several professorships at the University and did not get any. However he joined the modern anthropology that was developing in England and the US , and through hard work in research and difussion he not only achieved international recognition but also exerted a decisive influence on the future of anthropology in Spain.
