Abstract

The brotherhood of Santa Maria de Sangüesa, in the parish of the same name, dates from the XIV century. In the XVI century, the image lending the brotherhood its name was called Nuestra Señora del Puy de Francia and Nuestra Señora de Rocamador as of the XVII century. Devotion to the saint became widespread and her intervention was called upon in all sorts of situations. Widely worshipped, she was declared, together with other saints, patron of the locality. Her gothic image, other iconographies and the generous trousseau that she possessed in past centuries are all analysed here.
