Alfarería de Lumbier: ollas o pucheros y cántaros pirenaicos [Pottery in Lumbier: pots, pans and jugs from the Pyrenees]

Abstract

This article studies a specific typology produced in the former potters’ workshops in Lumbier, Navarre. For many years the pottery business boomed in Lumbier, comprising one of the most well-known and valued production centres in the north of Spain. Particular mention should be made of the cooking pots, which were the most popular items on sale in this small town. In this work, we will try and classify this type of pottery, with all its variants. This pottery is of great ethnographic interest, given the fact that it was one of the last pottery workshops in Navarra to remain in operation, right up to the middle of the last century.
