Justillos y jubones roncaleses [Traditional women’s garments in the Roncal valley: Waistcoat and jacket]
Abstract
In this work, a detailed description of the «justillos» and «jubones», that are part of the Roncal women’s clothing, is made. 81 pieces have been studied from the village of Roncal. Their patterns and manufacturing materials are studied. The «franjas», one of the most characteristic components of these clothes, are described and classified according to the method of preparation in embroided, carved and with gallons. We show a series of examples that denote the high level of quality achieved in the development of these pieces, especially in those developed by the «realce» embroidery technique. Finally, we try to refute the established idea that the Roncal «jubón» is an exclusive garment of the married woman.
