La indumentaria de los navarros a mediados del siglo XIX [The clothing of the Navarrense in the mid-19th century]

Abstract

This paper analyzes the clothing used by the men of Navarre after the First Carlist war through a very little used source of the 1840-1845’s. This source consists on a great number of descriptions of individuals, most of them from the «Zona Media» of Navarre, who were accused of politic or common crimes and appeared in the judicial summons in the Boletín Oficial de Pamplona. Besides the name, age and physical features, the clothing is recorded which allows to reach some conclusions about its use in the different areas of the said zone. The magnitude of the sample makes possible to establish the similarities and divergences with bordering provinces and even raises questions about the geographical distribution of the crimes...
