Fajeros pamploneses. De oficio humilde a solemne cometido [Sash makers from Pamplona: from a humble trade to a solemn assignment]

Abstract

In the past, the use of physical strength was essential for the development of most of the work activities. This was the case of the cargo porters or porters, who in our environment were known as «fajeros». In the same way that happens with other trades of modest condition, and even though the term is still valid in certain designated religious traditions of Pamplona, our knowledge about these workers is very limited. This is precisely the purpose of this article: to approach the origins and particularities of this old occupation that has remained in force until a few decades ago.
