Abstract
This article records a linguistic innovation used in the colloquial speech of young people from the Baztan-Bidasoa area: the use of the structure Ze ba? as interrogative and introductory response in causal and explanatory sentences. Following an explanation of the methodology used, we go on to provide a detailed analysis of the six different uses of the phrase, later showing such structures as used by these young people. Finally, we wonder whether this area, generally classified as an area of transition, may become a focal point or,
at least, a place from which linguistic innovations may appear.
