El vasco (h)odei “nube” y algunos problemas genéticos del panteón europeo-occidental

Abstract

The same author published an article on the origins of the numerals ehun and (h)ogei in issue 75 of FLV (p. 151-166). Following the same process of delving into arcane etymological sources, the aim now is to find a relationship between the term (h)odei, cloud, and the agricultural world’s moon deity, following the same line of evolution as the Germanic Deity Wodan. Ethnographical data is presented to support the interpretation. The possible existence of two routes to moon worship, and a third to sun worship, on the trajectory the Basque people followed on their way towards the supreme God of the Christian religion is suggested.
