Abstract

A summary is presented by the author of the works concerning the Basque language by the german philologist, Joseph Karst. This renowned linguist’s work is practically ignored in sources on the Basque language and this article is a first attempt at publicizing his main conclusions at a scientific level. It gathers the most important parallels between Basque and Armenian. The linguistic material is divided into three parts: phonetic correspondence, grammatical coincidence and lexical resemblance. In his main work, Alarodiens et Proto-Basques, Joseph Karst bases himself on extensive linguistic material in order to maintain the hypothesis that the Basque and Armenian languages are but two slightly modified varieties of the same linguistic branch.
