Arantzazuko batzarra (1956)
Abstract
This study gathers the unpublished text of Mitxelena's speech at the I Aránzazu Congress (1956). The text is written on the back of five mimeographed pages containing the programme and notes on registration. The very terminology used denotes a highly spontaneous spoken style. lt would appear that he observed certain reluctance towards linguists, for he declares that researchers neither affect language, nor are they its enemy. The nature and evolution of language are studied so as not to gro pe in the dark. Nowadays a reflection of this kind might appear strange, but not for this does it fail to be a valuable historical testimony.
