Què vol dir "Llagostera"?

Abstract

What does "LLAGOSTERA" mean? The name of this Catalonian town has been interpreted in many different ways, from "the place of the lake" to "the place of locusts". The article aims to explain that far from these popular etymologies there is a scientific interpretation based on Iberian toponymy and its indubitable identity with Basque toponymy. In this way, I interpret both "LLA" and its variant "LAN" with the same Basque voice "LAN" meaning "work", and by extension, "someching that is broken or cut". "GOS/ COS" or "GUS/CUS" would be "GOR/GUR (head/hill/height/) in Basque, with the "R > S" transformation of the Iberian language as indicated by Unterman. Finally, "TERA" would come from "URA/URRA" (water) by means of the process: UDRA>UDERA>DERA> TERA. It will be with this morpheme "TR" on which a large number of river names will be based, including "Ter", "Terri" or "Daró" to mention but a few. In the same way, I indicate the relationship between the lberian "LACUS" and the Latin "LOCUS", and with an ample Greek semantic field which shares the idea of "breaking", also formed with identical roots: "LA-" and "KS/KZ/KM".
