Información magisterial en la correspondencia de Holmer y Mitxelena (1953-1954)

Abstract

This fourth instalment of the collection of letters exchanged between Nils M. Holmer and Lius Mitxelena, which commenced in 1950, takes in the two-year period 1953-54. It reveals the still precarious work and financial situation that the teacher from Rentería found himself in, which impeded him from dedicating his time to research. Among the positive aspects, he indicares that he has passed the Graduare examinations in Madrid, that he has opted for historical Basque phonetics as the subject of his thesis, and that the book "Basque Surnames" has been published. His first experience as a lecturer at the University of Salamanca would represent an accolade in his professional career. Etymology contrasted with semantics forms the basis of the scientific content of these documents.
