La etimología euskérica de bukatu, terminar

  • Vahan Sarkisian Universidad Estatal de Erevan. Rep. Armenia [Armenia]

Abstract

The Armenian author attempts the etymological interpretation of some Basque words through the Basque language itself. He tackles the problematic origin of the verb bukatu – “finish; conclude”, and as opposed to the Romance forms of evident similarity which have been proposed for interpretation up until now, the writer suggests the form *burukatu, from the term buru, - “head”, which presents the similar term burutu with the same meaning. The semantic process would be similar to the Spanish acabar, or the French achever. It could also be the case that other derivations of this Basque root have been passed on to other languages.
