Abstract

The linguistic situation of the Ribera (south) of Navarra has been very complex throughout history. We analysed diverse information relating to this subject in our doctoral thesis. In this article, for instance, we inform about two place names of the village Fitero, Erga and Larrate, and locate them in their geographical and historical context. Fitero represents the historical south-western border of Navarra, and in conclusion, we are able to state that, in the same way as other languages, Basque too fulfilled a communicative function in this area.
