Abstract

Juan de Amendux was born in Pamplona towards 1540. An orphan by 1548, he was a ward of his cousin Juan de Osés, resident in Valtierra where le lived for some years. He learned to read in that village and in Tudela (1552-1554), devoting himself to the trade of pedlar in Zaragoza, Pamplona, and some other places with little fortune. He was in gaol in Tafalla where he composed an elegy in Basque (1567). He was freed little after, dying in Pamplona in February 1580.
