-Ki aditz-atzizkiaren gainean

Abstract

The authors of the present paper present a detailed study of the verbal suffix -ki to the object of reporting on its current inappropriate use, and of laying the foundations for its correct usage.

The paper comprises several sections: firstly, the past and current presence of the above mentioned suffix in the Basque literature and in old writings is examined, secondly, what the Basque grammarians have said about the topic is commented, and, thirdly, the use of -ki in Navarre and its relatioship with sentence emphasis is studied.

In the penultimate section the extension and different uses of -ki (specific, for greetings, emphatic) are investigated. Finally, the age when a child first begins using -ki is briefly seen.
