Las lenguas escritas y habladas en Pamplona
Abstract
Throughout history, the people of Pamplona have expressed themselves in different tongues: sorne written, with graphic systemes and considered to be cultured (amongst the principal ones Latin, the Romance languages Occitan, Navarrese and Castilian); and one spoken but not officially written, used by the majority ot the population of the city during the Middle Age, judging by its toponymy and other data, and even up until the 18th century among the lower classes. The vicars of the four parishes and the hospital chaplains must have been Basgue-speaking, and they were so during the 17th century.
