Causas del retroceso del euskera en el Valle de Allín (Navarra)
Abstract
Allín, a valley adjacent to Estella, had a Basque-speaking population up to the 19th century. The process of implantation of the Spanish language started in Arbeiza having as its main causes the constant flow of Spanish-speaking patients, the clerks’ attitude, the primary school teaching conducted in Spanish, and the clergy's renounce to the use of the vernacular language in their ministry. The sociopolitical crisis and the wars in the first half of the 19th century helped to complete it.
