Arqueta «Los Arcos» (Fuero de Estella)
Abstract
"El Fuero de Estella" (1164) and its Romance writing from the 13th century point out two areas in Navarre for choosing the Navarrese witnesses and the Frank duelists who were to take part in a trial. The bridge in Logroño, Pamplona and Sangüesa (the borderline with Castile and Aragon) set the boundaries for the second area and the first one bordered on Lazagurria, the bridge in ARQUETA, Pamplona and the bridge in San Martín de Unx. Lacarra identified those two bridges with the ones in Arquijas and San Martín over the river Irati in Sangüesa. "Arcueta, Arqueta" must be a village having a bridge and situated to the west of Estella. As there isn't a village or an uninhabitated spot with such a name it must be a locality with a double designation, Romance and Bas[1]que: Los Arcos = Arkueta.
