Iruñeko toponimiaz (I)

Abstract

This article is based on the material collected by J. M.ª Jimeno Jurío, and was a part of a deeper investigation. The article has three parts: in the first one the Basque suffixes present in the Pamplonese toponymy are analysed; in the second one there is a list of the generic Romances that appear in the toponymy of the capital city of Navarra at the same time as its Basque equivalents are given, taking examples basically out of the toponymy of Pamplona and its "Cuenca". In the third part the Basque post-positions that appear in the toponymies of the city are commented and studied and their Spanish equivalents are given. The study of the most controversial toponymies of Pamplona is pending for a next article.
