Mélanges de Linguistique
Abstract
In our short critical dissertation about the comparative linguistic we try to demonstrate the difficulties of this kind of essay, while in basque we have not etymological dictionary, any more for the asiatic languages used by the dilletante. In two items of M. Morvan the words subject of the etymological comparison are true borrowings from the gascon (piru, pirta) or from the spanish (falda/halda, malda) unusable to establish a connection with altaic languages. Other words are diverted from there meaning to forge a chain from the Basque Country to the Balkans, and as far as Oulan-Bator.
We remind that, without any historical nor protohistorical contacts with asian peoples, we cannot base a comparative theory while we have not etyrnological dictionary and an ancient words corpus of all the languages used for.
