De toponimia del valle del Ebro navarro

Abstract

This study tries to revise the tradicional limits of Basque toponymy, following the documented materials of the minor toponymy of the Bardenas Reales and The Navarraise valley of the Ebro area. After a summary of the studies made about chis question, we present a list of place-names with a clear basque origin. This brings about immediate lexical and historiacal problems, with a reflection about the contribution of chis data to the ancient History of the zone, poor in epigraphic documents. Finally the historical limits of Basque toponymy established by tradicional bibliography are reconsidered.
