Abstract

In this short report about the geographical boundaries which the Basque Language reached in 1980, we have considered, such as in other previous reports, what we could call traditional boundaries, that is, we have not considered either areas outside these boundaries, as for example, the towns or villages on the left embankment of the Ibaizabal river (Nervión), near Bilbo (Bilbao), or towns and villages such as Amurrio, Gasteiz-Vitoria, Agurain (Salvatierra), Araia, Lizarra (Estella), Iruñea (Pamplona), Tafalla, Agoitz (Aoiz), Baiona (Bayonne), Olorue-Donamaria (Oloron-Ste. Marie), Pabe (Pau)... where the amount of Basque speaker population, sometimes gets a very importante quantity.
