Abstract

In 1940, the Provincial Council of Navarre created the Príncipe de Viana Institution for the cultural development of the province. This new entity has two predecessors: first, the Commission of Historic and Artistic Monuments of Navarre, with whom the Institution integrated its goals and people; and, second, the Cultural Council of Navarre established in 1931, which, like the Príncipe de Viana Institution, is a subsidiary of the Provincial Council, with annual economic allocation. The purpose of this Cultural Council was related to the cultural development of the province, with greater focus on social issues and cultural promotion.
