Abstract

The promotion of the 8th Count of Santisteban to the Viceroyalty of Navarra in 1653 was the result of family and personal dynamics at the service of the Crown. The objective of this work will be to find the formulas devised by the Benavides family and Don Diego himself to reach the post of viceroy as well as to find out the criteria followed in the middle of the 17th century for its concession. The review of the writings made by the character himself and the funeral honors of the same will allow the proposed analysis.
