Abstract

The aim of this paper is to publicise the content of a new documentary source for the study of the second half of the 1521 French-Navarrese expedition. It is a letter, lost until now, from André de Foix, Lord of Lesparre, the commander of the campaign, to his sovereign, Francis I, which was written in Logroño on 8 June 1521 and is kept at the British Library. It provides new information on the circumstances surrounding the attack on the Riojan capital and its consequences in the following weeks, those leading up to the Battle of Noáin, which definitively thwarted the attempt.
